"Bella Blood Drive...Give Blood...It Saved Her Mommies Life"

Do you want to save a life?

Many of you know I have my little Bella who is such a joy! It has been the greatest thing being a mom! Every day there are new challenges but it is so rewarding. In honor of Bella's birthday each year we have decided to hold a blood drive...the "Bella Blood Drive.” Please read about our family and why it is so important to GIVE BLOOD!

Bella was born September 21st 2009. Things were going fine and I had amazing nurses and doctors at Rex that guided me through the whole birth process. Got to the hospital at 5am and Bella was born that night around 11pm! Long, long day but she was born healthy and we were so blessed! But things didn't stop at 11pm! I had some major complications and started to hemorrhage. I only held Bella for a brief second and then I just didn't have the strength to even hold her. My family knew something was still wrong so the nurses and doctors took action quickly. After working on me for quite sometime I lost tons of blood and was fading. I want to explain my story so you can understand the importance of saving a life. It could be for someone you love just as my family loves me. Everyone felt helpless and my life was in the hands of someone much bigger than all of us! Mom describes how she feels as the hardest of her life.....in one room (the nursery) lays such "new" life (Bella) and then in another room (the hospital room) lays a life that was fading quickly (me).....like she should be celebrating to rejoice the birth (Bella) but there was such anxiety and stress with possible death (me).

That night I had two blood transfusions and almost needed a third. Without that blood I would not have survived. I had prayed day after day for Bella's health and over the staff of doctors and nurses that were going to be with us the day she arrived. God truly gave us a team of people to protect me that night. They all acted quickly to save my life! Four days at the hospital and the doctor let me go home with my blood at half the level it was supposed to be (that shows you how much blood was lost if I was at half my count and had two transfusions). Once I came home from the hospital it took months to get my strength back and blood levels where they needed to be. Doctors orders to eat right, rest, and build up my blood count which I did and each day I was so thankful just to have life!

When I think about all that happened I realize that some very kind people (just like you) took their time to give blood which gave me life. I had a chance to be a mom which I had dreamed about for nine months...The chance to continue to be a wife....The chance to be a daughter and love mom and daddy like I always have....The chance to be an aunt and love my three nephews more than they'll ever realize...The chance to continue to be a friend to all my friends that I share so many fun times with...The chance to be the DanceArt lady who runs around like a crazy person but loves her parents and students smiling faces as they walk into the studio week after week...The chance to see my dance kids grow up year to year and be proud of them like they are my own. Basically......I got another chance for life!

If you have the time or can give blood, please participate in our annual blood drive! The Rex Mobile will be coming to the studio in September.

Hopefully we'll make a difference in someone's life by giving. You can save 3 lives by giving just a pint of blood!

Thank you,

Amber and Glenn Weeks
